Tourist Mobile, one of the worlds leading Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs), announced that it has partnered with Sonim Technologies, the leader in Push-To-Talk IMS solutions for mobile operators, to launch Austria's first standards-based Push-To-Talk system. Tourist Mobile's customers will now have early access to Sonim's XP1 mobile "tough phone" along with Sonim's high performance Push-To-Talk service.

Sonim is helping Europe replicate Nextel's success in the United States by bringing a comprehensive, standards-based Push-To-Talk system to operators and enterprises across Europe. This standards approach, combined with a unique ruggedized phone, is being embraced by companies and operators including Dr. Materna/Vistream, KPN, Telefonica Moviles, Selectric and Dialect, a large value added reseller in Germany and Sweden.

"With Sonim's XP1 tough phone and robust Push-To-Talk service, we can better serve our two groups of customers: tourists who need a ruggedized phone while hiking, skiing or at the beach and rescue personnel who work in those same environments," explains Klaus Leitner, CEO and founder of Tourist Mobile. "The Push-To-Talk feature is ideal for these groups who want quick communications with parties in their group, whether to find each other on the ski slopes, or in the case of rescue personnel, to locate people in need of help." "While we've had good success with traditional mobile operators like KPN and Telefonica, I'm excited about the new markets that Tourist Mobile has tapped, both being ideal customers for our tough phone and walkie talkie service," said Bob Plaschke, CEO of Sonim Technologies. "We're very excited to be working with Tourist Mobile as they are clearly one of most innovative mobile operators in Europe."
