Monday, February 28, 2005
San Mateo, CA – Sonim Technologies the leader in enabling today's wireless data networks to deliver high-margin VoIP applications including Push-to-Talk, today named Bob Plaschke as chief executive officer. His promotion completes a transition by management and its board of directors to expand the company's mission to encompass the emerging mobile voice over IP market and ensuing convergence with wireless LAN and land-line networks.
“Bob’s vision for the company make him the right choice to be CEO for Sonim,” said Terrence Valeski, chairman of the board. “I am excited about Sonim’s impact in the market and will continue to be personally involved with Sonim’s future growth.”
Plaschke's previous roles with Sonim included chief financial officer and executive vice president of business development. He recently served as an Entrepreneur-In-Residence at Sutter Hill Ventures focusing on wireless investments. Before joining Sutter Hill Ventures, Bob was senior vice president of worldwide client services at InfoSpace, where he was responsible for the implementation of wireless data solutions for the company's worldwide group of carriers.
“This year we will sign a number of additional channels utilizing Sonim-based products, including OMA PoC clients and servers,” said Plaschke. I’m thrilled with the opportunity Sonim has before it, not only to capitalize on the massive contribution we’ve made to standardized IP-based PTT, but to take advantage of position we’ve built to pursue a broad play in core IP-telephony.”
“Bob will drive Sonim deeper into mobile Voice over IP and it’s convergence with other applications and networks.” said Robin Murray, partner with 3i US and one of Sonim’s early investors. “We continue to be bullish in the Push-to-talk marketplace and Sonim’s ability to capitalize on it as a stepping stone to the multi-billion dollar converged voice over IP space.”
