Speakeasy's Gamecloud Selected to Host America's Army Honor Game Servers in U.S.
Friday, January 07, 2005
SEATTLE - Gamecloud (www.gamecloud.com), the on-line gaming division of Speakeasy, the nation's largest independent broadband services provider, has been selected by the United States Army to host the official honor game servers for the wildly popular America's Army PC game (www.americasarmy.com) throughout the U.S. starting January 10, 2005. Speakeasy's Gamecloud is one of the U.S. Army's two official game-server hosts worldwide, and offers a variety of services including its NetFire datacenter products to the gaming industry and consumers.
Speakeasy's Gamecloud services will ensure that thousands of players nationwide can simultaneously participate in America's Army tournaments, matches and public game-play - all administered by its GDX (Game Development Extensions) system software. GDX is a dynamic automation system that seamlessly administrates and reports for the America's Army's honor servers to track real-time gaming statistics and other information important to participants.
In America's Army, players experience progressive training events that emphasize teamwork, values and responsibility as a means to achieving goals. Upon successful completion of the training levels, players advance to multiplayer operations in small units that model operational units of the U.S. Army. Players can also train and play as Green Berets. Consistently one of the most popular PC action games online, more than 4.4 million gamers have registered to play America's Army and have logged more than 62 million hours of game play since its July 2002 release.
America's Army honor servers are an advanced version of the game's basic servers and are able to provide real-time tracking of key statistics for the multi-player, first-person-action games. Gamecloud utilizes Speakeasy's nationwide broadband network for its game-hosting servers and GDX continuously geographically administers the systems automatically via nine facilities.
"Through our relationship with Speakeasy's Gamecloud, we will continue to drive the popularity of the America's Army game with players and tournament coordinators. As the America's Army game progresses with more tournament modes and features, Gamecloud's enhanced services and high-quality game hosting will be integral to ensuring a great gameplay experience for our fans," said Colonel Casey Wardynski, originator and Director of the America's Army game project.
"Gaming services have been a core aspect of our broadband business for years and we understand the complex needs of an online gamer. The combination of Speakeasy's national broadband network and our GDX administration will allow for optimal integration methodology resulting in smoother game play and tremendous performance which will greatly enhance the experience for America's Army participants," added Speakeasy Chairman, Mike Apgar.
