TNS Acquires InfiniRoute Networks Inc.

RESTON, Va., (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Transaction Network Services, Inc. (NYSE:TNS), a leading network and data communications provider for transaction-oriented applications, today announced the acquisition of substantially all of the assets of InfiniRoute Networks Inc., a provider of fully managed Voice over IP (VoIP) peering services for wireline and wireless carriers and PSTN-quality VoIP connections to international high-growth traffic regions. The acquisition includes InfiniRoute's flagship product, VoIP Direct.
TNS is now able to provide traditional carriers and next-generation service providers with direct network interconnectivity using public or private Internet Protocol (IP) packet networks, reducing the cost and complexity associated with these interconnections. The acquisition of the InfiniRoute technology advances TNS in its ability to offer VoIP peering services to its global customer base and strategically positions the company to pursue VoIP peering business opportunities.
TNS will continue to provide InfiniRoute's flagship product, VoIP Direct, a service enabling direct VoIP peering between service providers over IP networks. VoIP Direct includes the following components:
-- VoIP Enablement: For traditional carriers, InfiniRoute accepts legacy time-division multiplex (TDM) interfaces and converts the traffic for transport over IP networks using VoIP signaling protocols.
-- Protocol conversion and interoperability: For customers operating different signaling protocols (particularly H.323 and SIP VoIP protocols), InfiniRoute offers interoperability services and protocol mediation support, enabling disparate networks to connect.
Additionally, TNS will offer billing, clearing and settlement services to complement the VoIP Direct product. Customers can choose to interconnect directly by establishing their own bilateral contracts and simply using TNS as the technology enabler and usage-reporting vehicle, or they can contract with TNS to reduce the number of independent agreements required and have TNS perform billing and settlement services.

TNS will focus on interconnecting large, "tier one" carriers using the Public Internet, or through use of its own private IP extranet in the future, as a replacement for costly international interexchange carrier (IXC) networks. InfiniRoute's customers include five of the top 40 global carriers.
